Hidey ho, good neighbors!

I will be moving across the country at the beginning of August, and I need to unload everything that won't fit in my car for the trip.  I hate craigslist, so I'm reaching out to friends to see if they know anyone in the market for apartment stuff.  I need to be rid of most of my things by 7/15.

Here's what needs to go:
  • (2) short, white bookshelves (36" tall, maybe 24" wide) = $30 for both
  • (1) 6' light-wood bookshelf = $20, brand new
  • (1) coffee table with two big drawers, about 18" x 36" = $15
  • (1) metal-frame futon with cushion = $25
  • (1) 24" x 21" TV (I don't know how to measure the darn things) = $50
  • (1) 10-cup coffee pot = $5
  • (1) 5' lamp with shade = $15
  • (1) large white bedroom dresser, 5 drawers = $50
  • (1) Twin-sized mattress and box spring set with metal frame. (potty-free, it was bought when I was in high school) = $200
  • (several) twin-sized sheets, thread counts 250+, some still in packages
  • (1) brand-new 88-key keyboard and instructional book (I'll have to fish out the details, but I bought it last year and hardly played it) = $100
  • (1) Oster food processor = $20
  • (1) brand-new women's trail bike (Schwinn), ridden <5 miles, needs a new chain? = $200

I also have plenty of other things that I need to get rid of that I can't list separately, so here we go:

-girls M/L Disney t-shirts
-boys M/L Disney t-shirts
-plastic drinking cups (Transformers, Nemo, Fairly Odd Parents, etc)
-books (many genres)
-blankets and quilts for Twin & Full size beds
-other women's clothing, size 8-10

My objective is two-fold: 1) clean out my apartment as soon as possible while 2) raising a little extra cash for the trip, just in case.  I may be willing to negotiate $, and I can provide pictures upon request.  I'd be happy to cart things around to garage sales if anyone knows of one I could piggy-back on.

I really appreciate any word-of-mouth you guys can generate for me.  I'm putting word out in several different places, so it's first-come, first-serve.

THANKS!!

Quick!

Going out on Weds or Thurs, and I need ideas for what to do! My only limitations are that the guy I'm going out with doesn't like to bowl.  Other than that, we both have cars, are 21+, and have a little bit of cash.  He's not *entirely* local, but neither am I, so even the obvious would help.

Any good ideas for going out and causing a little bit of trouble, or at least for pretending that I'm cool?

Can you guys tell me some more about West St. Paul? I will be moving there on March 1st. I don't quite know the area that well.

Hey, St. Paul! How's about you learn to number your street signs in such a way that they're actually USEFUL!?

I think this should clear up which city has the best skyline once and for all.

Cities
Like Minneapolis
Are cold and scary
In both winter AND summer
Other cities are much more cold and scary yet
I feel
A friend could have given me a jump start
But she threw me in the trash

The key is to find pockets
Pockets of close knit fulfillment and warmness
I hate you alienating cities
Hope goes up only to be smashed
Cities are exciting, but cold
Mostly only fundamentalists wanting to convert, homeless beggars, cigarette bummers, and scammers reach out
None of which have what I need
Everyone else follows the city rules
Absorb me, pockets of fulfillment and warmth
Free me from the cold alienation of cities

I work in downtown Minneapolis and hate how after I get off at 9:00 p.m. and am dragging and tired, the city is full of life and action even on weeknights. I am not in that mode then. I am in the mode of slowing down and settling in because it is my bedtime and that's what people should do during weeknights instead of action, action, action. It sucks when I'm dead and there is life all over the place.

Then I take the 94 bus to downtown St. Paul and I find a city that acts how it should at that time of night. St. Paul is calm and quiet not fast paced and scary like Minneapolis. St. Paul rocks because of its calmness.

...is the Artists' Quarter. The only REAL jass club in the TC. In the basement of the Hamm Building, black walls, good sightlines, cheap drinks, cheap covers, great music. I also go to the Dakota, but, really, there is no comparison between the two. Dakota does bring in the big national acts on a consistent basis but it costs a few body parts to get in and the drinks are chintzy and costly. Except for the beer.

I do have to admit that other than going to the AQ I don't do anything in downtown St. Paul at all because there isn't a real nightlife. Deader than coffin nails at night. It isn't a place where you would want to stroll around on a mild summer night taking in the sights and sounds of a vibrant nightlife, unlike downtown Mpls. I love walking down Nicollet Mall in the summer time, there is always something going on.

While I am in many ways a staunch Minneapolitan, there is one area in which I must concede our total and utter defeat by those...people...across the river.

They have all their libraries.

We suck.

Yes, this was a while ago. No one posted. In fairness, I thought it had to be said.
